Weekend: Lippizaner stallions (Bean loved it - they drool an awful lot), Bean made a wonderful oil pastel drawing & we shaved the beast!

We went to the Herbfarm last night for the salmon themed dinner.
It was okay.
I do think a lot of times that simply prepared, honest food is better than the arty stuff, that's being arty for arts sake.
I didn't really need essense of stinging nettle rolled into my salmon or devil's club foot in my chocolate sauce.
Was a nice evening w/Bag O Chips - who by far had the sweetest ass in all the restaurant.

We went and saw Shen Yun last night at the Paramount. Bean had really wanted to see it when it was here a few months ago - but we missed it. I think she liked their bright flowing costumes & elaborate hairstyles from the brochure she found somewhere, so when she learned they were coming back I got tickets for us. We were in the very front, the little three seat row on the left hand side. While it was pretty and we enjoyed the singing, music and dance - you quickly realized this performance was about the religion/politics of Falun Gong - which I hadn't known - I was just expecting Chinese dance. The weird thing was that they were photographing the audience. During routines, they'd bring up the house lights and the photographer on the sidelines would start clicking away. I found myself turning my head sharply to the side so he couldn't get a good shot of me & Bean kept looking at him directly and then hiding completely. Strange & way too invasive.

So my baby boy, freshly minted 11 years old, is going into middle school next fall. I've been touring local schools. Let me say this: 11 - 13 years old, is not a beautiful age. Not at all. Quite the opposite actually.
One kid today even had a pretty good beard & mustache happening on his goofy face (no fool'n).
